Hendershot, 542626 corporal, Company K, 7th Infantry, 3rd Division, French Croix de Guerre with gilt star, under Order No. 17, 467 "D", dated May 17, 1919 General Headquarters, French Armies of the East, with the following citation:" All his men having been wounded by an intense bombardment he hastened to give them first aid and assisted the litter bearers in transporting them to the first-aid station. He returned to look for a severely wounded comrade and brought him in on his shoulders under an incessant bombardment". Residence at enlistment: Bad Axe, Michigan
